Displaying artwork may seem like a simple enough task. You find it, bring it home, choose the location, measure the area to find the right spot, and then secure a screw or nail into the wall. It's as easy as that, right? Well, that depends on what you really want. Yes, you certainly can follow traditional hanging methods, and you may be perfectly happy with the result. On the other hand, you may wish to approach hanging your art as something morethinking of displaying art as something of an art in itself.
For instance, do you have a piece of artwork you love that you want to highlight in a special way? Try thinking beyond single pieces and instead consider creating an artistic grouping. If you have a Victorian-style print, how about grouping it with a few plates, tole trays, a small shelf, or a pair of sconces?
You should also carefully plan groupings and test them before you commit. Before you begin hanging the items, lay the entire grouping down on the floor, in the specific configuration you have in mind.
